Grounding

The Earth is a massive reservoir of negatively charged free electrons

Grounding / Earthing

Think back to the last beach holiday you had where you were free to walk along the sand, enjoy the sun and relax.  How good did it make you feel?  And how quickly did that feeling evaporate when you returned to the ‘real world’?

Did you just feel the benefits of a stress-free holiday in the sun or could there be something more to this sense of relaxation and wellbeing?  How many of us think about our connection to the earth when we walk barefoot on that sandy beach?

In the last century or so, we have lost our electrical connection to the earth: something vital for our health and wellbeing.  Rubber and plastic soled shoes, and insulating mattresses in insulated houses, mean that we spend our days and nights disconnected from the Earth.  The practicalities of modern living rarely allow time to connect to the earth by walking barefoot in the grass or on a beach.

There is a very physical and scientifically verifiable reason why we feel better when we do this:

  • The Earth is a massive reservoir of negatively charged free electrons that we need to connect to.

  • Our bodies produce free radicals as a result of normal metabolic processes and external environmental factors and this generates a positive charge within our bodies.

  • The effect of excess positive charge and electron deficiency in the blood can be seen very clearly by the way in which the cells are attracted to clump together.

  • A connection to the earth’s negatively-charged influence helps to restore the balance.

  • We can also help to balance this electron-deficiency, by eating foods rich in antioxidants, such as fresh fruit and vegetables.

It's such a simple thing to do and yet the effect can be so profound.  In our modern lives we can't always be outside and barefoot, and so products are available that are designed to provide this electrical connection to the Earth in a convenient and practical way.

There is another benefit of grounding which is particularly relevant in our modern electrical world.  Our environment is full of a wide spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, from computers, mobile phones & masts, radio & TV broadcasts, WiFi, Bluetooth, power lines, domestic wiring, and other electrical appliances.  Grounding may help to reduce the effects of this electromagnetic radiation.

Those who ground themselves regularly report benefits ranging from better sleep to fewer aches and pains.
